Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of exercise which was originally created as a Martial Art, although the majority of people practicing Tai Chi around the world today do so for its proven health benefits.

Recent studies have shown that Tai Chi can be extremely beneficial for those suffering from back problems, can improve cardiovascular function and help in breaking down body fat.  Tai Chi has also been shown to help with balance and fall prevention and to slow cognitive decline.

At Paignton Tai Chi Studio we practice the Lee Family Style of Tai Chi which was brought to the UK by Lee Chan Kam in the 1930s.  The style was popularized in the second half of the Twentieth Century by Sifu Chee Soo who trained many instructors in the Art across the UK and beyond.

In our Tai Chi classes we focus mainly on the Lee Family Forty-Two Posture Form along with Qigong exercises and partner work designed to develop your skill and understanding of Tai Chi.  Class sizes are limited so that all students receive individual attention and to ensure everyone can progress at their own pace.

Although our classes focus on the health and relaxation aspects of the Tai Chi Form, there are opportunities provided at Paignton Tai Chi Studio for those students who wish to explore the martial arts applications and training curriculum of this traditional and effective martial art.
